Raku
Raku is an area where I have extensive experience. Having taught Raku at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists Residencies for about 7 year, hundreds and hundreds of firings have led to a greater understanding of the process and timing involved with each piece.
Raku is a type of kiln and process. Things are pulled out of the kiln very quickly which has a unique affect on the pieces. Most other types of ceramics would shatter after being put through such stresses from the thermal shock. Originally a Japanese process, I utilize the American version of Raku.
The glossy surfaces uses a glaze of mine, while the more matte surface has nothing but burned horse hair on them. Two of the most popular styles I offer.
